David has managed a major deal with Channel Nine for
24 one hour major specials. Ten productions are now
completed with the remaining specials to be produced at
a rate of one every four months. The completed
productions are as follows and all will be available on
DVD soon.
Desert Ghosts
Join David
Ireland as he encounters the world’s most amazing,
beautiful, and sometimes dangerous creatures on his
incredibly exciting wildlife adventures. As one of the
world’s most experienced and highly respected wildlife
film producers and presenters, David’s knowledge and
ability to interact with creatures is legendary. In
central Australia some 500 000 wild camels roam the
desert country materializing from the scrub like
spirits. The elder bushman describe these beasts as
‘Desert Ghosts’.
This film
was shot in full widescreen HD quality. David's mission
was to encounter wild camel herds in the hot desert
regions of central Australia. On his journey into the
red country he joins an aboriginal friend and does some
traditional hunting for fish, yabbies and turtles. He
encounters huge pythons and strange desert lizards.
Eventually David manages to get within metres of a herd
of wild camels. Some of the 700 kilo bulls are not
impressed with his closeness and the encounter is
extremely dangerous. Displaying his natural gift and
concern for animals of all sizes, David saves the life
of a Corella by gently amputating its broken wing. Some
of the outback scenery and storm scenes are simply
unbelievable and the action in the film showcases
David's ability with wild animals. One scene of
particular interest is when David demonstrates his
ability to brake in wild stallions with the horse
whispering method. The winning combination of outback
scenery, snake, reptile, amphibian and bird encounters,
incredible storms, wild camels and horses and a
brilliant music score by Gary Hartman makes ‘Desert
Ghosts’ one of David’s finest productions to date.
Searching For Dragons
This film
was shot on Kangaroo island in South Australia in full
widescreen HD quality. The animal encounters will amaze
nature lovers. They include echidna, meat ants, tiger
snakes, possums, koala, goanna, penguin, kangaroo,
wallaby, new Zealand fur seals, sea lions, huge groper
and one of the rarest creatures in the world, the leafy
sea dragon. The action, scenery and animal encounters
keep viewers firmly in their seats, especially when
David swims with the rare Australian sea lion and when
David catches with his bare hands a tiger snake!
Hand Feeding Sharks
Film shot
in full quality HD widescreen in some of the most rugged
and remote mountains in NSW and climaxes at Stradbroke
Island in Queensland. David has three separate agendas
in the film. Firstly to encounter some of Australia's
giant insects and one of the countries rarest and
dangerous snakes and his last goal in the film is to
hand feed one of the worlds fastest snapping sharks. All
goals are achieved in the film. They include the
following creature encounters: Spotted black snake,
giant scorpion, giant centipede, giant stick insects,
giant cockroach, giant cuttlefish, weedy sea dragons,
moray eels and Wobbegong Sharks. The catching of the
deadly insects by hand is amazing, and also the catching
of the snake on the edge of a 300 foot cliff! The
climax of the episode is literally mind blowing as David
hand feeds numerous sharks that snap fish from his hands
at unbelievable speed.
Giant Moray Eel
One of
the most powerful marine animals for its weight and size
is the giant moray eel, however regardless of their
reputation the species is in dire trouble surviving in
the modern world. David's mission in this film is to
track a giant moray down and attempt to hand feed the
monster to learn more about the animal. David travels to
a remote Indian Ocean island in search of his eel. While
on location on Christmas Island, David encounters some
of the rarest birds on earth that are strictly endemic
to the island. He also finds huge giant crabs and
explores shipwrecks and undersea caves. Eventually David
finds his giant eel and the encounter makes documentary
history with its action. Giant Moray Eel represents one
of David Ireland's finest productions. Filmed in
widescreen digital.
Wild Boar Attack
This film is action packed as David catches the most toxic snakes in Australia and climaxes as David tracks down a huge wild boar that was responsible for attacking an old aboriginal man in outback Australia. This film addresses David's concerns about the problems of introduced feral animals like wild boars and may offend some viewers as the culling of wild pigs is shown in the film.
Ancient Predators
This production is also action packed with a whole raft of marine predators featured. David hand feeds moray eels, giant stingrays, giant cuttlefish, wobbegong sharks, grey nurse sharks and wrestles with a huge octopus that lives in an old shipwreck. This production showcases David's ability to work with dangerous sea creatures and has a strong environmental message.
Ocean Giants
This production takes the audience from the Great Barrier reef to the splendid untouched Ningaloo
Reef in western Australia. David interacts with numerous species of sharks, rescues a wounded shark, explores aboriginal caves, dives Australia's worst ship disaster and dives with huge groper and climaxes with a massive whale shark. " Ocean Giants" is typical of a David Ireland action packed adventure film.
Swimming With Whales
This film was completed in Jan 2004. It is adventure plus, as David explores the pristine reefs of PNG, films active volcanoes and dives with baby humpback whales in Tonga. The footage and music in this production is superb and the humpback whale scenes are breathtaking as David actually swims with fighting male humpbacks as they breach and slap their huge tails. The film climaxes with David's encounter with a brand new born baby humpback whale.
Surviving
Africa
This production was shot in South Africa at
Sabi Sabi game reserve. In this film, David has some
amazing encounters with leopards, lions, elephants, hippo, warthogs, buffalo, pythons and rhino. David is chased by an angry bull elephant, has to deal with a very angry python and confronts five bull rhino on foot. "Surviving Africa" is the first wide-screen (16:9) production in
David's TV series. The Wildlife Encounters, scenery and music score all go into making this production one of David
Ireland's finest.
Outback Serpents
This production was filmed in outback NSW, QLD and the Northern Territory of Australia. The programme director of Channel Nine described the production as " Magnificent". The film showcases Australia's splendid outback scenery from deserts to mountains, to the unbelievable Northern Territory gorges, springs and rivers. The film also showcases David's ability to catch by hand some of Australia's most deadly snakes, including death adders and the incredibly fast whip snakes. Some scenes in the movie are especially breathtaking as David Ireland swims in crocodile infested rivers with pythons, file snakes and turtles. " Outback Serpents" is a must see Australian Outback/action TV special.
